Now, Google is updating its Google Phone app with the Material You design on Android 12. According to a new report by XDA Developers, users on Android 12 are seeing the design revamp introduced for the Google Phone app. The Google Phone app version 70 brings a couple of new Material You design theme elements. Notably, the changes are evident on floating action buttons (FAB) and the bottom tab. For some users, the new design also brings dynamic theming features to the Google Phone app. However, do note that this feature is not available for everyone yet. Another important thing, as already mentioned in the Material You theme for the Google Phone app, is live only for select users on Android 12.
The Google Phone app Material You theme is likely to arrive for everyone soon
So, folks at XDA running Pixel 3 XL on Android 12 Beta 5, and Pixel 4a on Android 12 Beta 4, weren’t able to see this new theme live for their Google Phone app. Well, it goes without saying since the feature is currently under A/B testing, it is only available to a bunch of users for now. Thankfully, this feature will be available for everyone in the stable Android 12 version, that is without any doubt. Moreover, the Material You theme for the Google Phone app is not complete. Reddit users, who actually reported about the arrival of this new design, claimed that the Google Phone app with Material You design doesn’t follow the system colors. So, not everything is in its final stage. Google is still experimenting with the new theme design for the app, which you will see in its final form with the release of the Android 12 stable version. This visual refresh doesn’t bring any new features. It is just pleasing for the eye and it goes in symmetry with other stock Google apps that have already been updated with the Material You theme. If you are running Android 12 on your device, and haven’t received the update for the Google Phone app, you can check Google Play Store for the same.
